April 2019 Newsletter

Staff News

We are pleased to announce that Nursteed School’s new head teacher has been appointed.

Mrs. Kay Vousden, a skilled head teacher with considerable experience, has agreed to assume responsibility for leading Nursteed School from September. Governors were pleased to attract a strong field of candidates and, following a rigorous selection process, had no hesitation in recognising Mrs. Vousden's suitability for the post.

In the summer term Mrs. Vousden will work with Mr. Heath and other members of the staff team to ensure a smooth transition to the new school year.

Summer Term

We’ve had a glimpse of some nice weather in recent days, even if it’s tailed off this week… Here are a few summer term related reminders.

Named clothes

Please ensure that your child’s clothing, especially his/her top, is named. Children have a habit of (sensibly) discarding their tops when the weather gets warmer but are not always so good at remembering to pick them up again. We have a large amount of lost property and would like not to add to it.

Sun Safe

An early reminder, but please do provide sun hats and apply sunscreen when things get brighter.

Packed Lunches

Packed lunches brought from home are stored in a closed storage space out of direct sunshine and heat but we are not able to provide refrigerated facilities. You may want to consider the suitability of your child’s lunch box and provide one with a cooling facility (insulated and/or with ice pack) when the weather heats up.

Summer Dates

  • FoNS May Fair: Friday May 17th
  • School photographs (class and whole school): Wednesday June 12th
  • Sports Day (weather permitting): Wednesday June 19th
  • Parents’ Open Evening: Wednesday July 10th

Recycling

Don’t forget our textile container for unwanted clothes, belts, paired shoes, bags, hats, bedding and towels. This generates funds for the school, and nothing goes to landfill. It’s an opportunity to generate extra income, promote recycling and help protect the environment.

Nits

As some of you are only too well aware, we have had head lice in school. The only way to minimise their impact is for everyone to check and treat their children’s hair thoroughly and regularly. Please take the opportunity of the Easter break to do this so that we can start the summer term without them. Thank you.

Professional Development Days

Three professional development days remain in this school year. On the days listed below the school will be closed to children:

  • Friday May 24th
  • Friday June 28th
  • Thursday July 25th

The last one means that the effective final day of this school year for children is Wednesday July 24th.

(N.B. The leavers’ assembly for Year 6 will be on this day.)

Leaving Gift

In the summer term we will be starting a collection for a gift for Mr. Heath to mark his retirement from Nursteed School. If you’d like to contribute you can do so via the school office. Thank you.
