Our lantern-making workshop was as popular as ever so there was a good crowd of Nursteed folk amongst the throng at the Devizes Lantern Parade. Nursteed Choir joined with children from other town schools at the Mayor’s Carol Concert, and sounded great. It was terrific to see everyone who came along to our Christmas Fair. Special thanks to all the parents and friends for organising such an enjoyable evening. Our Christmas-time performances, ‘A Rhyme for Christmas Time’ and ‘Mary Poppins’, were charming, fun, energetic… and really well-supported. Thanks for coming along!
A reminder of what we’ll do if we can’t open the school…
We’ll send a text message to your ‘phone as soon as we know. Also we’ll tell local radio (BBC Radio Wiltshire and Wiltshire Heart Radio), place a message on the school website and put a notice at the school gate. This might take a little bit longer so it’d be good to check that we hold a correct, up-to-date contact number on file so you're informed as soon as possible. Thank you.
If there’s no announcement then the school is open.
Thank you for your contributions that totalled nearly £175.
Don’t forget we start the New Year with a special week of activities, with a visiting author and our ever popular book character parade on the first Friday. You’ve received details already, and they’re available here in case you need to check anything.
We’re hugely fortunate to have Mr. Rebbeck as our school caretaker. He does so much for the school behind the scenes.
But there’s only one of him, so the school governors have recently given thought about what to do if he isn’t available for some reason. We would like to see if we can find someone to act as relief caretaker.
As luck would have it, shortly after the governors’ discussions, Mr Rebbeck suffered an accident at home that means he isn’t fully available to do his normal duties for a few weeks.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in filling this role, perhaps quite soon, please get in touch with the school office and we’ll gladly provide further details.
Well done to all four of our football teams that competed in the local tournament recently. Especially to our ‘A’ team, which goes through to the next round of the competition early in the New Year.
All the days when the school is closed to children have been declared. They are:
Monday February 25th
Friday May 24th
Friday June 28th
Thursday July 25th
Please especially note the date in February: you might not have seen that one before. (The last day of the school year for children is Wednesday July 24th.)
A separate printed newsletter detailing clubs for the spring term will be distributed before the end of term. Please complete and return it by the end of the first week back.
If you’re eligible for free school meals please register by completing the relevant form. Even if your child is young enough to have the infant free school meal. Even if he/she doesn’t actually want to eat it but has a packed lunch from home. This is because the school receives extra income for all eligible children.
The local authority is able to inform us if they think you might be eligible so you may receive an extra note saying this: if you get one please consider registering. (N.B. The note doesn’t guarantee that you’re eligible, but you could be.)
If you’re currently eligible for free school meals please look out for a letter about a ‘Holiday Meals Project’ that may be of interest to you.
Parents and friends are invited to join us for class-led assemblies in the spring terms. When it’s your child’s class’s turn to lead assembly please join us in the school hall at 2:40 on the relevant afternoon. They’re all on Fridays.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all at Nursteed School!
