As the school year draws to a close we’re saying thank you and farewell to two members of staff.
Miss Jones has worked in ‘Pluto’ class for much of this year and we wish her well as she moves on.
Mrs Sutton, on the other hand, has been part of the Nursteed team for many years, teaching the younger classes every week throughout this time. So thank you to her for all that she’s brought to the school for more than a decade! We wish her well in her new role as a nursery teacher in a neighbouring school. We’re sure she’ll enjoy the new challenge!
Finally, we wish the children in ‘Saturn’ class farewell and ‘good luck’ as they leave us and rise to the many challenges and opportunities that secondary school will bring them.
Nursteed sports teams have had a really successful year!
We try to take part in all local competitions and tournaments because we know how good it is for children to be part of a team, whether they win or lose. But it’s nice to do well, of course…
All of these teams won through area and local rounds to end up in the County finals: boys’ football, girl’s football, hockey, netball, tag rugby, ‘Quad Kids’, swimming, tri-golf and orienteering. Special congratulations to our orienteering team who were bronze medallists and, most spectacularly, to our netball team who are the county champions for 2018!
Thank you to all the parents and school adults who have transported and supervised children at these events. Thanks too (of course) to teachers who have coached teams throughout the year, and to Mr. Butterfield who has coordinated all of this activity.
If you were able to be there, thank you for joining us on sports day. On our second attempt we found a sunny afternoon for the usual enjoyable mix of fun and competition. Blue team were very glad to be this year’s victors (though it was a close-run thing)!
It was good to see lots of parents and children in school for our recent Open Evening. Thank you if you were able to join us: we hope you enjoyed the opportunity to round up the year that’s ending and say hello to your child’s new teacher.
Term dates are always available via the school website (click on the ‘News’ tab). We’ll gladly provide a printed copy if you’d like one - just ask in the school office. Please note term dates as you plan next year’s holiday – we will not authorise absence in term time unless the circumstances are exceptional.
Three closure days for professional development are known:
The school is closed to children on these days. Two more such days remain to be declared. We’ll give you plenty of notice once they’re confirmed.
It’s been good to see our coffee mornings with Sam Dunbar (our parent support adviser) become an established part of our calendar. These will continue next term so look out for future dates.
The Summer Reading Challenge is back. Get down to Devizes Library and encourage your child to keep reading regularly throughout the summer break. You’ve already had details, but whether you can still find them or not just visit the library and get all the usual free stuff that goes with joining in this excellent activity. It’s well worth doing and it won’t cost you a thing!
We understand that replacing school uniform and shoes near the end of the school year is not something parents would choose to do and this sometimes means that things get a bit ‘non-standard’ as the summer term draws to a close. However, the start of the new school year is a different matter. In September we look forward to seeing everyone in smart uniform and school shoes please.
Clubs start afresh in September. Look out for a special newsletter early in the term and return it without delay so we can get on with sorting out who’s doing what.
The first day of term for almost everyone is Monday September 3rd. Younger Reception children (whose birthday is between April 1st and August 31st) start on Thursday September 6th.
Each September there’s a chance for parents to meet their child’s new teacher, hear a bit about what’s planned for the year and learn how they can best support learning at home. See the calendar below so you can pencil in the date for your child’s class now. Except for Y6 these meetings take place at 2:45 in your child’s classroom.
