Don’t be shy!! We can never have enough volunteers!! 

Read below to find out more about the work of FoNS and how you can get involved. 

FoNS - Who are we?

We are Friends of Nursteed School (FoNS) and are a group of volunteers with children or grandchildren at the school. 

What do we do?

We raise additional funds for the school by organising fun activities for the children to participate in for a small fee. 

What have we achieved?

From April 2020 to March 2021, our fundraising opportunities were badly hit due to covid. We still managed to raise £942 through activities such as a mini quiz, Halloween dress up and selling hot chocolate and sweets at Christmas time. 

In 2020-21 the funds raised by FoNS meant that an overhead projector could be purchased which is something that all children will benefit from.  We also give each class a small donation at Christmas time for the Teachers to spend on their pupils, this can be anything from a board game for the class to an item of stationery for the individual pupil. In non-covid times we subsidise school trips for pupils (£100 per class) and have previously paid for events such as the science dome, school mosaics and artwork on the outside of the school, and supplies for topical school subjects.

Fundraising 2021-22

For the 2021-22 academic year we have a target to raise £2,400 to buy new picnic tables for the playground.

There are a number of ways in which you can get involved:

• Join the Committee - we meet once a term to plan our fundraising events and report back on previous ones including how much was raised but also listening to feedback, what could be done better next time and what worked well. 

• Helping Out - if you don’t feel the Committee is for you, then why not volunteer to help out at one of our many events? There is always plenty to do!! You could help with selling tea and coffee, taking entrance fee money, checking tickets, or help set things up and clear away. 

• Donations - we are always on the look out for prizes for our events. Whether these are prizes for a raffle or for the children for a competition we’re running. If you feel this is something you can help with then please get in touch. We always publicly acknowledge these donations.  

• Supporting FoNS events - one of the most important things you can do to support us is attend the events we organise and allow your child to participate in the competitions we organise. We always try to keep the fee minimal so that no child is excluded.  Your donations to these events are crucial in FoNS being able to reach its fundraising target and purchasing additional items for the school they would otherwise be unable to afford.
